Sold So Many vs Fomo

This is the comparison where the usual angle does not apply. Fomo publishes a real-data policy, states that it does not tolerate fabricated notifications, and can attach a verification badge to a notification that links to a page showing the event ID, the integration source and the timestamp. There is nothing to expose here, and this page does not try.

So the useful comparison is a plain one: where each app puts the proof, what each plan is capped by, and what that costs.

Everything about Fomo here comes from its Shopify App Store listing, read on 16 October 2026.

Where Fomo is the right choice

  • You want to be told when something happens, not shown a standing number. Fomo is event-driven: a purchase, an add-to-cart, a product page visit. A label answers "how is this product doing"; a notification answers "what just happened". If you want the second, Fomo is built for it.
  • You want on-page urgency on your own terms. Inline social proof is available on the Business and Pro plans, so this is not an either/or between pop-ups and page content.
  • You need high volume at the top end. Pro covers up to 300,000 notifications a month. Sold So Many's largest published tier is 100,000 visitors, so a very high-traffic store should compare on volume, not sticker price.
  • Your events live outside Shopify. Fomo integrates with a wide set of sources and accepts custom webhooks. Sold So Many reads only your Shopify data.
  • You want a verification badge on every notification. If provable provenance on the notification itself is the point for you, Fomo shows its work in the widget.

Where Sold So Many is the right choice

  • You want the number printed on the product. The label sits on the product image and beside Add to cart — the shopper reads it while looking at the thing they are deciding about, and no overlay covers your storefront.
  • You want no notification limit. Tiers are defined by monthly visitors only. If you show several signals per product, you are not spending a notification budget to do it.
  • You want a bigger free tier. 10,000 monthly visitors against 1,000 notifications. For most small stores that is the difference between free and paying.
  • You want the claim and the data tied together on the page. All 25 labels are published, each listed under the exact store data that has to exist before it renders.
  • You want a lower paid entry point. $19 against $25.

Where the two agree

Worth saying for a category that has earned its scepticism:

  • Neither lets a number be invented silently. Fomo backs notifications with events and can prove it in the widget. Sold So Many has no field for a hand-entered count, and skips a label rather than filling it in when the data does not clear its threshold.
  • Both read live activity rather than a fixed list.
  • Both install without theme edits.
  • Both are billed through Shopify — true of every App Store app, so it is not a difference.

How to check any of this yourself

Figures here were read on 16 October 2026. Fomo's plan volumes and prices are the ones to re-read, since tier limits move:
